"Brother, Can You Buy a Salem Witch Death Warrant?" by Steven Biel at Common-place, has been sitting around as a "draft" at Blogger for awhile. Particularly interesting is the mention of the Bonus Army, made up of thousands of down-and-out American veterans of WWI, who were driven by violence from their encampment at Anacostia Flats, Washington D.C., by none other than General Douglas MacArthur himself (along with then Majors Dwight D. Eisenhower and George Patton--see here for more on the Bonus Army).
